Clinical Evidences

BiogenicPet is a feed supplement for dogs containing growth factors from natural source, plus Selenium and Vitamin-E. These growth factors are low molecular weight intercellular signalling substances (mainly oligopeptides) which influence cellular multiplication, differentiation, survival, and metabolism.

Insulin-like growth factors in BiogenicPet are responsible for growth of liver, kidney, brain and for hormonal balance - BiogenicPet alleviates a range of frequent canine diseases by this way.

Dr. Robert Gippert, veterinarian: "Among the indications first of all the above-mentioned effect on hormonal disorders has aroused my interest. Namely there are either very limited or very expensive treatment alternatives according to these diseases. Of course we didn't have a large number of patients within such a limited time what we had for testing this product, therefore we cannot set significant, widespread conclusions - still I would like to summarise our experiences below."

DIABETES (DIABETES MELLITUS)

Patient No 1: A 4 years old Poodle bitch. We could diagnose the disease in good time without obvious major complications, blood sugar level was not extremely high either (12 mmol/l). The animal was set to dietetic feed (Eukanuba Weight Diabetic Control) and BiogenicPET treatment (2x50 mg/day). Blood sugar level decreased to normal value within a few days and it hasn't changed during the next four weeks.

Patient No. 2: A 6 years old cross-breed male dog which has been suffering in diabetes for a longer time and gets insulin two times per day. After two weeks of BiogenicPET treatment (2x50 mg) insulin dose could be decreased by one quarter, after four weeks to the half, and currently - after 6 weeks treatment - insulin is not administered any more.

Patient No. 3: A 10 years old Rottweiler bitch which has been on insulin therapy for a longer time and situation didn't improve after ovariectomy either.
She has been on BiogenicPET treatment (2x150 mg) for six weeks, and daily insulin dose could be decreased to the half. We have reached this result after the fourth week, but since then we could not reduce the dose further, because blood sugar level increased after every attempt.

DIABETES INSIPIDUS

Patient No. 1: A 8 years old male Fox-terrier suffering from this disease for a long time. He has taken Minirin® (desmopressin) until now. He has been treated with BiogenicPET (2x50 mg) for four weeks, and currently only a quarter of the original dose of Minirin is needed for him to be asymptomatic - i.e. not to drink and urinate too much.

Patient No. 2: A 9 years old Dachshund crossbreed. This is a new patient; he has been taking BiogenicPET for six weeks. He drinks much less, enuresis disappeared, but he is not completely free from symptoms.

CUSHING SYNDROME

Patient No. 1: A 10 years old Dachshund bitch. Her disease was diagnosed for a long time, she has taken Nisoral® (ketoconazole) tablet as symptomatic treatment and has got Eukanuba Light pet food to get rid of overweight. She has been taking BiogenicPET (2x50 mg) for six weeks. Now she doesn't get Nisoral tablet any more, only the weight-loss diet. Her drinking and urination quantity is normal; she has lost remarkable bodyweight, condition of her skin and hair improved significantly.

Patient No. 2: An 11 years old crossbreed male dog. Freshly diagnosed case; since the first visit - for four weeks - he has been taking Vetoryl® (trilostan) and BiogenicPET (2x50 mg). After four weeks of treatment he needs only one quarter of the former Vetoryl dose to prevent urge urination during the night. Her weight decreased a bit, and we saw improvement in condition of skin and hair as well. The owner cannot afford special dietetic pet food, so we decided to take special care to feeding at home: reduction quantity of food and selection according to possibilities.

Patient No. 3: A 7 years old Westhigh terrier bitch. She has been suffering from permanent eczema and was set to continuous prednisolone therapy in another office. This dog has come to us recently. Long-term glucocorticoid therapy initiated Cushing syndrome in this patient, with the classic symptoms. At first step we ran a test for allergy and diagnosed adverse reaction to food. The feed was changed to Eukanuba Dermatosis dog food and she has been taking BiogenicPET (2x50 mg) for three weeks. Prednisolone therapy was stopped, we used body care shampoo and antihistamine at the beginning of therapy to decrease itching. As for drinking and urination the situation is better, but she is not free from symptoms. Her weight hasn't changed, but her skin and hair condition turned to the better.

THYROID GLAND DISORDERS (HYPOTHIREOSIS)

Patient No. 1: A 10 years old boxer bitch. First time when I saw the dog it was atrophied with alopecia and hyperpigmentation. Blood test set suspicion of hypothireosis. Besides these we diagnosed mamillary tumors and ovarian cysts.

The animal undergone surgery (ovarohysterectomy, removal of breast with tumors), she got Eukanuba Senior food and has been set to BigenicPET (2x150 mg). After four weeks condition of the patient improved significantly, alopecia ceased, discomfort improved remarkably within 5-6 days.
It is important to note that in this case we used double of the recommended dose of BiogenicPET. In the US the summary of product characteristics recommends this elevated dose and clinical experience supports that it is necessary in such cases.

IDIOPATIC COLITIS

Patient No 1: A 7 years old Cane Corso dog was brought to us in very bad condition with permanent diarrhoea. After performing several laboratory tests, diagnosis of idiopatic colitis was set.
Currently he gets the following therapy: Salazopyrin® (sulfasalazin) tablet, Eukanuba Intestinal food and BiogenicPET tablet (2x150 mg, double of the usual dose).
We have been treating the dog for four weeks. Consistence of his faeces is currently better although it is not formed yet. Condition of the animal improved remarkably, his hair became more shiny, his general vitality and mood has become much better than it was four weeks ago.

OTHER CASES

We have used the product in 10 cases for weak, convalescent animals (after surgery or disease) and for old dogs in bad condition respectively. After 24-48 hours of treatment we could see improvement in the mood, their appetite became better. After two weeks the condition generally improved, behaviour of the old animals became similar to the younger ones.

In other 10 cases we applied BiogenicPET as complementary therapy besides basic treatment in animals suffering from different skin diseases.
Generally it can be stated, that if the basic problem was solved, skin and hair condition improved as well during the next two weeks.

We used BiogenicPET in further 10 cases for musculoskeletal disorders where the problems could not be solved because of different reasons, so we could only apply symptomatic treatment. (E.g. elbow- and hip dysplasia, other forms of arthrosises, etc.). We switched the shell extract to BiogenicPET tablet, and administered pain killers besides.
In these cases movement functions generally improved much better, than with the previous therapeutic protocol. In four cases we could finish pain killer therapy after two weeks, they remained on BiogenicPET monotherapy.

We had two patients with severe recurrent panostitis. Besides usual treatment (antibiotic and non-steroid anti inflammatory drug) we applied BiogenicPET. By continuous therapy we succeeded to eliminate symptoms and the disease hasn't returned.

To conclude the experiences I'm convinced that BiogenicPET works well in the approved indications. It was missing from hormonal disease treatment, because from time to time we had nothing to apply. I think that BiogenicPET is a very useful product what I can offer for everyday practice for many of my colleagues. BiogenicPET is beneficial not only in complementary therapy but as specific medication as well. Its price is perfectly acceptable even for less affluent owners, which is not the last aspect nowadays.
